Chapter Six

“I think you’re right,” I said as I shoved me wings off and followed Nigel. “About the collar. What if it is some kind of device that can control Alex?”

Joshua and Filch were still taking their gear off.

Nigel glanced at me and shrugged. “Won’t know until we catch him.” His gaze drifted to me arm. “Um, were you on fire at any point?”

“No.” I glanced at me mechanical arm and cursed. Part of the forearm was melted. “Bloody hell.”

“Looks like it’s just the exterior, otherwise you wouldn’t be able to move your fingers.”

Fucking mechanics.

“Come on, I’ll pop a new one on.” He pushed the glasses up on his nose. “The panel won’t be the same color.”

“Because color on a mechanical arm matters so bloody much,” I muttered, me mood going sour. This fucking arm. We made our way past the cots and the meal area. There was a second room, not as large but with a bunch of equipment in there and a cage in case we had unexpected guests. It was brightly lit, probably the best in the entire place. I sat on a lounge chair and laid out, then crossed me legs at the ankles.

“Any pain?” Nigel asked as he picked up the arm and placed it on a small table beside the seat.

“Sure. Me pinky hurts like a cock in the arse.”

I didn’t realize the quip had new meaning until Nigel blushed. He kept his head down as he used some pronged tool to open the partly melted portion of me arm. Bloody hell, that statement shouldn’t ever exist. I glanced away. I knew it was a part of me and normally I couldn’t fucking care less, but it was awkward with Lucius. I wanted to kiss him again, to get naked with him again. Despite me brother, the resistance, even Alex, I still wanted him. But did he want a mechanical man? Nigel nicked something because me arm suddenly jerked upward and the fingers splayed. A bright light reflected off the arm that I now couldn’t lower. Fucking hell.

“Nigel.”

He used another tool and then I had control back. “Sorry.”

He went back to work and the fingers finally relaxed. He popped on the new panel which was a lighter silver than the mechanical arm. It looked off, and I frowned.

“Well, I didn’t think that could look any fucking worse.”

“It’ll darken over time and blend eventually,” Nigel mumbled.

“Thanks, man.”

He gave me a slight grin and then Lucius walked into the room. “He’s all fixed up,” Nigel rushed out, blushing so hard he looked like he was choking. I had to fight not to laugh and then I saw Lucius staring at me.

“You’re in one piece?” he asked.

I wiggled me mechanical fingers. “Kind of.”

“I’m sorry we didn’t get Alex.” He walked beside me. “We’ll find him again. And this time we’ll have a full plan. Emergency exits, plan Bs, and the lot.”

“Thank you.” I tucked me mechanical hand beside me body to hide the new fucking addition from his sight.
